(Letter from Anne 01/01/2021)
Happy New Year to one and all.
Finally, we can say goodbye to 2020 which has been a challenging year, to say the least. Families have been devastated by loss. Loss of family, friends, jobs, income, freedom to go out, come and go as we please. Loneliness
has become a major concern, especially for older folks having to shield and not seeing anyone for weeks, months on end. Lots of people are being affected by mental health problems due to uncertainty of what the future may hold.
However, there have been some positives. We have learned just how much we take for granted; freedoms, friends, contacts to name but a few. Physical contact of a handshake, a pat on the back, a cuddle - all are not allowed at present. Zoom and Facetime are not the same, but we should be glad we have these facilities to help keep us in touch.
At Foodbank, the Core Team have been operating on different days to keep us all safe. We have been so fortunate to have built up a team of volunteers to help with weighing, sorting, packing and delivering for our clients. We are deeply indebted to them all as we could never have done it on our own. Grateful thanks and appreciation goes to them all.
We are also immensely grateful for the response of our wonderful community of Dunbar and the surrounding area. Our stocks have been kept healthy and whenever we have requested items, they have appeared in our bins. Our thanks to Asda, both Coops, McColls and our local churches who have helped collect these donations.
Christmas Day ran smoothly due to careful planning. 120 lunches and gifts were packed up and then distributed by another team of drivers. Everyone who helped out felt a great sense of pride at being part of such a wonderful gesture on Christmas Day. Foodbank, The Ridge and Dunbar Rotary came together and made Christmas more special for a lot of people around town.
Our thanks to each and every one of you for your donations, thoughts and prayers. We bless you all for your support and pray it will continue as we move forward into 2021.
Please know just how much a difference just even one tin in a bin can make.
Blessings to you all.
